Are you looking for the best places to see the Copenhagen cherry blossoms? You are not alone!

Every year in spring, the cherry trees color the city in shades of pink. They can be hard to find if you are unfamiliar with the city.

As someone who calls Copenhagen home, I’ve chased the cherry blossom season year after year, discovering both the popular hotspots and lesser-known places of beautiful Sakura.

Seeing the cherry blossoms has been one of my favourite things to do in spring each year.

To make the experience easier for you, I’ve covered the best places to see cherry blossoms in Copenhagen and shared tips on when to visit for peak bloom. I’ve also shared information about the Copenhagen Sakura Festival.

1. Bispebjerg Kirkegård (Bispebjerg Cemetery)

​​Bispebjerg Kirkegård is the most popular spot to see cherry blossoms in Copenhagen.

The cherry trees form a stunning pink archway overhead—the long pathway looks absolutely magical during peak bloom.

When the season begins, the blossoms are a mix of pale pink and white. But as the days pass, the colors intensify into a striking pink, making it even more breathtaking.

You’ll find signs in the Bispebjerg Cemetery guiding you to the Kirsebærtræerne (cherry trees), so you can easily find your way.

The place gets crowded. If you want to enjoy the beauty without the crowd, go early on a weekday. The cemetery is open from 7 AM to 10 PM.

This was the first cherry blossom spot I visited after moving to Denmark. Trust me, it’s worth the visit!

Did you know? Sakura is the Japanese word for cherry blossom that bloom in spring. Sakura is Japan’s national flower and symbolizes renewal and hope.

2. Langelinieparken

Located near the Little Mermaid statue, the Langelinieparken is the second most popular place in Copenhagen to see cherry blossoms. 

With around 200 cherry trees lining the park, it creates a lovely pastel pink canopy in full bloom.

The blossoms here bloom a little later than at Bispebjerg.

The highlight of the season is the annual Sakura Festival, held on the last weekend of April every year.

I love walking along this waterfront park during cherry blossom season. It feels so peaceful with the gentle sea breeze and pink petals drifting through the air.

3. Den Sorte Plads at Superkilen

Den Sorte Plads at Superkilen is famous for the square with wavy white lines painted across the black pavement. The cherry trees planted along the edges add pink hues, making the whole park feel colorful and lively during the blooming season.

I love how vibrant and picturesque this place is. A unique place to experience Sakura in Copenhagen.

You’ll also find fountains, chess and checkers tables, benches with barbecue grills, and a children’s playground, making it a great hangout spot for families with kids.

4. Landbohøjskolens Have

Landbohøjskolens Have in Frederiksberg is part of the University of Copenhagen.

The garden has around 6,000 different plant varieties, all neatly labeled with nameplates.

During spring, the flower beds burst into color with tulips and, of course, the highly anticipated cherry blossoms.

Unlike other spots where the cherry trees are lined up, here they are scattered throughout the garden. You’ll find both pink and light pink blossoms blooming in different corners, creating a lovely surprise as you stroll around.

Near the front garden by the dome, you’ll spot several cherry trees. It’s a peaceful and less crowded place to enjoy the blossoms.

Did you know? The leaves and petals of the Sakura are edible! In Japan, they are often used in desserts and infused in tea.

5. Assistens Kirkegård (Assistens Cemetery)

Assistens Kirkegård in Nørrebro is the burial place of famous Danes like Søren Kierkegaard and Hans Christian Andersen.

But it’s not just a cemetery—it’s also a peaceful park where locals go for walks, picnics, or simply to enjoy the greenery.

In spring, you’ll find a lane of cherry trees adding a splash of pink to the landscape.

While the blossoms here aren’t as dramatic as Bispebjerg, the mix of pink and green creates a subtle beauty. It is more of a peaceful, scenic walk than a place for taking photos.

6. Tivoli Gardens

Tivoli Garden has many cherry blossom trees and other colorful flowers blooming. During spring, it makes a beautiful spot for a stroll or a quick photo stop.

Tivoli is also home to a Japanese Tower that was designed as a playground 110 years ago.

Other Places to See Copenhagen Cherry Blossoms

While these spots are not well-known for cherry blossoms, you can still spot a few cherry trees scattered along some streets of Copenhagen. It’s a pleasant surprise to stumble upon them while exploring the city.

Sakura Cherry Blossom Season in Copenhagen

Cherry blossom season in Copenhagen is a colorful time that marks the arrival of spring.

The pink flowers usually start blooming in early April, but the peak season is around mid to late April.

If you want to catch the cherry trees in full bloom in Copenhagen, the second or third week of April is your best bet.

For an extra special experience, plan your visit to the annual Sakura Festival, held near Langelinie Park. It usually takes place on the last weekend of April, but the dates vary slightly each year.

Copenhagen Sakura Festival 2025

The Copenhagen Sakura Festival is a beautiful celebration of both nature and Japanese culture. 

It takes place for two days every April at Langelinie Park, where 200 cherry trees burst into bloom. The trees were donated by Mr. Seiichi Takaki, President of Andersen Bakery, in 2005 to mark the 200th anniversary of H.C. Andersen’s birth.

The Sakura festival is free and family-friendly, making it the perfect spring outing.

The event is packed with cultural performances, including music and dance, workshops, tea ceremonies, and traditional experiences from 11:00 to 17:00. See the program timetable and plan accordingly.

Many Japanese people dress up in kimonos or traditional outfits. 

There are also food stalls serving Japanese favorites like ramen, sushi, and takoyaki. You’ll also find stalls selling Bonsai trees, manga, anime things, handmade accessories, and other Japanese merchandise.

In 2025, the 18th Sakura Festival is celebrated on April 26th and 27th.

It’s a fun and immersive way to experience Japanese culture while enjoying the stunning pink blooms.
