Planning a trip to Billund and wondering about the best things to do?
Most people know Billund as the home of LEGOLAND, but there’s so much more. Billund has more to offer to keep both kids and adults entertained.
Having explored Billund myself, I can say that it’s a destination that deserves more than a day trip or a weekend.
In this guide, I’ll share the best things to do in Billund, including the must-visit attractions, hidden gems, and practical tips to help you make the most of your visit.

1. LEGOLAND Billund
LEGOLAND Billund is the reason most people visit Billund, and if you’re travelling with children, it is a top thing to do in Billund.
It’s much more than a theme park with roller coasters. You’ll find adventure rides, shows, playgrounds, and the iconic LEGO Miniland.
Plan to spend an entire day here, and if you’re visiting during school holidays or summer, expect longer queues for the rides.
- Rides & Attractions – There are more than 45 rides for different age groups, from small kid-friendly rides to faster roller coasters. Some water rides will leave you soaked, so I recommend packing a change of clothes, especially for children.
- Miniland – This was one of my favourite parts of the park. The detailed LEGO models of cities, landmarks, trains, and moving vehicles are created using millions of LEGO bricks.
- LEGOLAND App – I highly recommend downloading the official app before you visit. It shows live ride wait times, which I found to be very accurate and really helpful for planning the day.
- LEGOLAND Passport – Don’t forget to pick up a free LEGOLAND Passport from the large LEGO Store near the entrance and get stamps throughout the park.
Tickets, Food & Shopping
Once you’ve paid the entry ticket, all rides are included.
Ticket prices are dynamic, so booking online in advance is usually much cheaper than buying tickets at the gate.
If you use the Lidl Plus app, check the partner offers. They usually run 2-for-1 LEGOLAND deals.
Food is expensive at Legoland. I recommend bringing your own food and drinks, and enjoy your picnic at the park. You can buy drinks for around 150 DKK and refill every 15 minutes throughout the day.
The LEGO Store is huge, but I found many sets to be more expensive than regular LEGO shops. The only ones I recommend buying are the Billund-exclusive LEGO sets, as you can’t get them elsewhere.
One thing to keep in mind is that LEGOLAND is a ride-focused attraction. If your children don’t enjoy rides, you may not get the best value for your money. In that case, I’d recommend LEGO House instead, which offers a more creative, hands-on experience for both adults and kids.
Also, check their official website, as the park is closed on selected days.
2. LEGO House
Top attraction to visit in Billund besides LEGOLAND, I’d say LEGO House without thinking.
It’s an enormous indoor LEGO experience packed with creativity, interactive exhibits, and over 25 million LEGO bricks—a must-visit for both children and adults.
I genuinely recommend setting aside 4–6 hours for your visit. The ticket costs about the same as a LEGOLAND Billund ticket, so give yourself enough time to get your money’s worth.
Just remember that LEGO House requires a separate ticket and isn’t included with LEGOLAND admission.
- Masterpiece Gallery – A huge area featuring large-scale LEGO dinosaurs.
- Experience Zones – The heart of LEGO House. There are four interactive play zones, each designed for a specific skill: creative (blue), cognitive (green), emotional (yellow), and social (red). Everything is hands-on.
- The History Collection – Located in the basement, this is the official LEGO Museum. You’ll find LEGO’s original wooden toys, vintage sets, classic models, and the fascinating history of LEGO.
- Mini Chef Restaurant – An interesting dining experience. You build your own meal with LEGO bricks, and robots deliver it to the table. Reservations are essential.
- Brick Moulding Machines – Watch a live demonstration of how LEGO bricks are made.
We also picked up a free souvenir LEGO brick. The LEGO House sells exclusive LEGO sets you won’t find elsewhere and are a bit on the expensive side.
When you arrive, you’ll receive a wristband. Scan it wherever possible throughout your visit. Once you’re home, you can log in and access your digital memories for up to 28 days.
There are free lockers and complimentary coat storage facilities.
Tickets & Parking
Ticket prices use dynamic pricing, so booking online in advance is always cheaper than buying tickets on the day.
For parking, the overflow car park on Granvej 9 is around 900 metres away and is completely free.
Can You Visit LEGO House Without a Ticket?
Yes! Parts of LEGO House are completely free to visit. You can explore the main hall, which has a small free play area on the ground floor, browse the LEGO Store, visit the cafés and restaurants, and let the kids enjoy the fantastic rooftop playground without buying a ticket.
Outside there are interactive steps and giant LEGO structures to climb on. I saw plenty of families having picnics outside while the kids played without an admission ticket.
3. Lalandia Billund
Lalandia is a holiday resort. Staying in their holiday homes gives you free access to the Aquadome, indoor play areas, and several kid-friendly activities. However, you can also buy the entry tickets separately.
Lalandia is home to Scandinavia’s largest water park, a 10,000 m² Aquadome, and also a top place to see in Billund.
You’ll find exciting water slides, a wave pool, a huge water playground, and dedicated areas for younger children with baby pools, warm water pools, and bubbling fountains.
Kids will have a whole day of entertainment here. There are also wellness facilities where adults can relax while the kids continue to play.
I recommend booking your accommodation and tickets online in advance, especially during school holidays and weekends, as Lalandia is one of the most popular waterparks in Denmark.
Tips: Most Danes visit Lalandia in the winter, as its temperature-controlled indoor waterpark offers a warm escape from the cold weather.
4. Givskud Zoo Zootopia
Just 20 minutes from Billund, Givskud Zoo is one of the best things to do in Billund with kids.
It’s not a traditional zoo like Copenhagen Zoo, where animals are caged. Instead, you’ll enjoy a true safari experience, driving through large open habitats where animals roam freely.
You can see lions, giraffes, zebras, and other animals so close, living in a natural environment. The park is home to around 50 different species.
It is also home to Denmark’s Largest Dinosaur Park, where you can see life-size dinosaur structures. Throughout the day, keep an eye out for feeding sessions. They’re especially fun for children.
Beyond the animals, there are plenty of large play areas, climbing frames, swings, and bouncy castles, so children can have fun beside seeing animals. I recommend setting aside 5–6 hours for the zoo.
Explore the safari routes in your own car or hop on the Safari Bus. The Safari Bus starts at P1 and finishes at P3. It lasts about one hour and follows the same route as the self-drive safari.
There are three parking zones (P1, P2, and P3), each with toilets and food outlets.
The park also has walking trails of around 6 kms, allowing you to explore on foot.
Before you arrive, download the free GIVSKUD ZOO app and audio guide, which includes a digital map, daily schedules, and interesting facts about the animals.
The food is a bit expensive inside the zoo, but visitors are allowed to bring their own food, snacks, and water.
5. WOW Park
WOW Park is one of the most fun outdoor attractions near Billund and a great alternative to traditional amusement parks.
It’s a huge adventure park where children and adults can spend the entire day playing in nature.
The park covers an area larger than 40 football fields, so there’s plenty of space to run, climb, and explore. My nieces absolutely loved it and stayed busy from the moment we arrived until closing time.
There are no electric rides here. Instead, you’ll enjoy tree houses, zip lines, suspension bridges up to 14 metres high, Tarzan swings, underground caves, cable cars, and countless outdoor play areas.
The biggest highlight is the 20-metre Scandinavia’s highest free-fall slide.
You don’t need helmets or harnesses for the activities, as it has safety nets.
If your family enjoys active outdoor adventures, I highly recommend adding WOW PARK to your Billund itinerary. It was one of the biggest surprises of our trip.
More Things to Do in Billund
Most of Billund’s main attractions easily take a full day, especially if you’re visiting with children. If you have an extra day or a few more hours in your itinerary, don’t miss the following attractions.
These may not take all day, but they’re well worth adding to your Billund trip.
- Skulpturpark Billund – A free attraction in Billund. Green space featuring several sculptures along a paved pathway.
- Teddy Bear Art Museum – Located opposite LEGO House. Free entry for children under 11 years. An interesting place to see over 1200 teddy bears and learn about the history.
- Vejle Deer Park – 30-minute drive from Billund. Lots of free-roaming deer.
- Kongernes Jelling Museum – 30-minute drive from Billund, Denmark’s first UNESCO heritage site to learn about the history of the Vikings and Denmark.
- Syvårssøerne – Just a 10-minute drive from Billund. A nice, easy nature walk, a free thing to do in Billund.
Aarhus is just a 1.5-hour drive from Billund. Other places like Vejle, Kolding, Silkeborg, and Fredericia are within an hour’s drive.
Getting Around Billund
Most of the must-visit attractions in Billund are located close to each other, so you won’t spend much time travelling.
During the summer in July and August, free city shuttle buses run daily between Billund Airport, LEGOLAND, LEGO House, WOW PARK, Lalandia, and more.

Local buses also connect the attractions and nearby towns in Billund. Use the Rejseplanen app to plan routes.
Taxis are also available throughout Billund and are a convenient option if you are traveling with luggage.
Where to Stay in Billund?
In a LEGO-themed hotel, of course! If you’re visiting with children, I highly recommend staying at one of the LEGO-themed hotels.
The themed family rooms, delicious breakfast, free WiFi, LEGO play areas, and family-friendly atmosphere make the stay an experience on its own. The kids will love it.
- Hotel LEGOLAND – A 4-star hotel located right opposite LEGOLAND. It offers easy access to the park.
- LEGOLAND Castle Hotel – Also just across the road from LEGOLAND, this is the most premium option.
- LEGOLAND Holiday Village – Around a 10-minute walk from the park and usually the most budget-friendly choice.
If your budget allows, stay for at least three nights. It makes the whole Billund experience feel much more relaxed, and for many children, the themed hotel becomes just as memorable as LEGOLAND itself.
How Many Days Should You Spend in Billund?
Billund has much more to offer than just LEGO. You could easily spend 3–5 days here without running out of things to do, especially if you’re travelling with children.
Most of the major attractions deserve an entire day if you want to enjoy them without rushing.
So many Danes visit Billund as a day trip from Copenhagen. I visited Billund over a weekend, and honestly, it didn’t feel like enough. There was still so much I wanted to see and do.
How to Reach Billund From Copenhagen?
I’ve traveled by public transport from Copenhagen to Billund and found it easy to navigate.
The fastest option is flying, while the train is usually the best balance between cost and convenience.
Train + Bus (My Recommended Option)
The most popular way to travel is to take a DSB train from Copenhagen to Vejle, followed by Bus 43 from Vejle Station to Billund. The buses run about every 20 minutes, and you can’t reserve a seat in the local buses.
The total journey takes around 3 to 4 hours. Remember to bring snacks and drinks.
Book the train tickets early to grab Orange Tickets, which can save a few bucks. Also, if you create a free DSB Plus account, you’ll also get discounts on selected attractions.
Direct FlixBus
If you prefer a simpler journey without changing trains, FlixBus operates direct buses from Copenhagen to Billund. It’s often one of the cheapest options, especially if you book in advance.
Rent a Car
Driving takes around 3 hours, making it the fastest option by road. A rental car also gives you the freedom to visit all the attractions in Billund without much hassle.
That said, keep in mind that, besides the rent you have to pay the Great Belt Bridge toll, so it can become an expensive option costing around 5000 DKK unless you’re travelling as a group.
Fly to Billund
SAS operates direct flights from Copenhagen Airport (CPH) to Billund Airport (BLL). The flight takes around 50 minutes, and Billund Airport is only a few minutes from LEGOLAND and the town centre.
