Looking for the best places to go strawberry picking in Copenhagen?

Strawberry picking is one of the top things to do in Copenhagen during summer, especially if you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly activity with kids.

While it may be cheaper to buy strawberries from the supermarket, pluk selv jordbær (pick-your-own strawberries) is an experience in itself.

I can tell you, there’s something special about walking through a strawberry field and enjoying fresh, sun-ripened strawberries picked straight from the plants. And I can honestly say that no strawberry tastes better than the ones you’ve picked yourself.

I’m here to help you discover the best strawberry farms around Copenhagen, understand the best time to visit, and make planning easier.

Best Time to Go Strawberry Picking in Copenhagen

The best time to go strawberry picking in Copenhagen is from mid-June to mid-July. Strawberry season usually starts in June, and many pick-your-own farms open around the middle of June.

Mid-June to mid-July is when you’ll find the sweetest and juiciest strawberries. This is also when the fields are full of ripe berries ready to be picked.

Where to Go Strawberry Picking in Copenhagen?

There are only a few pick-your-own farms in Copenhagen.

I have listed the best strawberry farms that are easy to reach from Copenhagen by public transport.

Picking fresh strawberries straight from the field is a must-do summer activity for families, couples, or anyone who wants to spend a few relaxed hours out of the city in the Danish countryside.

1. Rokkedyssegaard at Værløse

Location: Rokkedyssegaard

Rokkedyssegaard is probably the most popular place for strawberry picking near Copenhagen, and I enjoyed my visit here with friends.

Strawberries are available from June to mid-September, and the pick-your-own experience is offered during designated morning and afternoon time slots. They update their Facebook to let visitors know exactly what can be picked the following day.

You can usually walk in on weekdays, but I recommend booking an entrance ticket online on weekends, as it can get busy. The entry tickets cost 35 DKK per adult, 25 DKK for children under 12, and children under 2 enter for free. The strawberries cost 75 DKK per kg.

You are allowed to taste one or two strawberries while picking, but not to eat freely from the field. Children are usually given a little more flexibility, but adults are expected to eat strawberries after you buy them.

There is also a strawberry café open from 10 AM to 5 PM, selling strawberry ice cream, smoothies, strawberry purée, and other sweet treats.

Strawberries are also sold at the Rokkedysse berry stand inside Torvehallerne KBH, which has been operating every summer (June, July, and August) since 2011.

How to Reach Rokkedyssegaard From Copenhagen?

To reach Rokkedyssegaard by public transport, take the S-train to Værløse Station, which takes about 35 minutes from Copenhagen Central Station. From there, hop on bus 151 towards Kirke Værløse and get off at Lejrvej ved Kildebakken (Lejrvej). The bus stop is only 100 metres from the farm.

Another option is to bring your bike on the S-train and cycle 3 km from Værløse Station to the farm. It’s a beautiful and easy ride through the Danish countryside, especially on a sunny summer day.

2. Amager Planteopbevaring at Dragør

Location: Amager Planteopbevaring

Gartneriet Raagaard or Amager Planteopbevaring is a huge open strawberry field, which gives a different feel compared to Rokkedyssegaard.

I haven’t personally been here yet, but a few of my Danish friends have visited and recommended it.

Fresh strawberries in Copenhagen from the strawberry farms

Strawberry plucking season is only June and July here. The farm is open every day from 10 AM to 5:30 PM. Fresh strawberries cost 27 DKK per 500 g. You can follow them on Facebook for regular updates.

Dragør itself is a beautiful day trip from Copenhagen, so you can easily combine sightseeing with strawberry picking.

How to Reach Amager Planteopbevaring From Copenhagen?

To reach Amager Planteopbevaring by public transport, take bus 250S from Hovedbanegården (Copenhagen Central Station near Tivoli) to Store Magleby (Englandsvej). The journey takes around 30 minutes, followed by a 1.5 km walk to the farm.

Alternatively, you can take the metro to Copenhagen Airport, transfer to a bus, and get off at A.P. Møllers Allé. From there, it is about a 900-metre walk.

If the weather is good, I actually advise you to bring your bike to the farm and explore the coastal town of Dragør afterwards.

3. Jordbærgården at Smørum

Location: Jordbærgården

Jordbærgården is another great pick-your-own strawberry farm near Copenhagen if you prefer a large open field.

Strawberry picking usually starts around mid-June and lasts only for about three weeks. They regularly update their Facebook page with opening dates and availability, so make sure to check before visiting.

Strawberries hanging from the plants

The best strawberries are usually picked quickly, and later in the day, you may find yourself walking around more to fill a box with the good ones.

There is also a small farm shop where you can buy coffee, ice cream, soft drinks, and snacks during opening hours.

How to Reach Jordbærgården From Copenhagen?

Take a train from Copenhagen Central Station to Ballerup Station, which takes around 25 minutes. From Ballerup, several buses connect to the area, followed by a short walk to the farm.

Since bus schedules can change, I recommend checking the Rejseplanen app before you travel to find the quickest route.

The total journey takes about 1 hour from Copenhagen to the Strawberry farm.

4. Ventegodtgaard at Køge

Location: Ventegodtgaard

Ventegodtgaard is an organic strawberry farm in Køge. The farm has been growing strawberries since 1990 and cultivates 5 to 10 different strawberry varieties.

The strawberry season runs during June and July, and this is when you’ll find plenty of sweet, juicy strawberries ready to be picked.

Since the farm grows organic strawberries, prices are slightly higher than other farms. There is an entrance fee of 25 DKK per person for anyone over 4 years old, while it’s free to visit the shop or café. The strawberries cost 75 DKK per kg.

The farm is perfect for families with kids because there’s a playground, farm animals, and opportunities for children to pet and feed them. They also have a café where you can spend a few relaxing hours.

Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 12 PM to 19:00 and Saturday to Sunday from 10 AM to 17:00. They also have an active Facebook page.

Take a train from Copenhagen Central Station to Køge or Ølby Station, then transfer to the light rail to Lille Skensved Station. From there, it’s about a 1.6 km walk to the farm.

Another option is to take a train from Copenhagen Central Station to Køge Nord Station, then catch bus 246 to Naurbjergvej (Yderholmvej). The farm is about a 1 km walk from the bus stop.

Personally, I think the easiest option is to take the train to Køge Nord Station and cycle the rest of the way.
