The Metro Line M2 (yellow line) is hands down the easiest and the best way to travel from Copenhagen Airport to the city center.

Metro is fast, reliable, and takes just 13 minutes to reach Kongens Nytorv. Operating 24/7, the metro departs outside of Terminal 3 every 2 minutes during the day and every 15-20 minutes at night, always on time.

A 3-zone ticket costs 30 DKK (same as trains and buses) and is valid for 90 minutes. Tickets can be purchased at the DSB ticket counter/ ticket machines at the arrival hall or at ticket machines near the metro station, which only accept coins, cards, and cashless payments like Apple Pay.

Since the metro station is located inside the airport, you won’t even need to step outside. Just remember to buy a ticket before boarding to avoid a fine, as inspectors frequently check this route.

For its speed and convenience, the metro is my go-to choice!

Note: You cannot purchase your ticket after boarding the metro or train. You need to buy tickets before boarding them.

Regional Trains from Copenhagen Airport to City Center

If you’re heading to Copenhagen Central Station or Vesterport from Copenhagen Airport, taking regional trains is the best option.

Regional trains depart from track 2 (underground) at Terminal 3 every 10 minutes during the day and every 20 minutes in the evening. At night, they run once an hour, so be sure to check the schedule on the Rejseplanen website.

The journey takes just 12-15 minutes. The trains are direct and don’t stop anywhere between Copenhagen Airport and Copenhagen Central Station, making it quick and convenient.

Regional trains are generally reliable, but slight delays could happen. Still a great choice!

Bus travel from Copenhagen Airport to the city isn’t the fastest option but can be a good choice if you’re in no rush.

A 3-zone bus ticket from Copenhagen Airport to the city center costs 30 DKK.

Tickets can be purchased at DSB ticket machines, online via the DSB or DOT app, or by paying the bus driver with cash (card payments are not accepted onboard).

Bus number 5C departs from outside Terminal 3 and connects the airport to Copenhagen Central Station in about 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic.

Several bus companies also stop at Copenhagen Airport before heading to the destination. For instance, the Gråhoudbus 999 that stops at Terminal 3 heads to Malmö, and the Abildskou Bus 888 to Northern Jutland departs from Terminal 2.

However, buses run less frequently compared to the metro or regional trains and can take longer due to road traffic. Personally, I prefer the metro or regional trains for speed and reliability.

Terminal Bus/ Shuttle Bus

Free terminal buses or airport shuttle buses operate within the airport premises. It connects the Car Rental Center with Terminals 2 and 3, as well as parking areas P15, P17, and P19.

They operate every 10 minutes during the day, every 15 minutes during early and late hours, and every 20 minutes at night. For precise schedules, check their official website.

Taxi from Copenhagen Airport to City

Taxis are available at Copenhagen Airport, right outside Terminals 1 and 3. While taxis in Denmark are expensive, they’re a practical option if you’re traveling with a group, have lots of luggage, or need privacy.

A ride to the city center takes about 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

Fares range from 350 to 500 DKK and all taxis are metered. So you’ll pay based on time and distance—no possibility of being overcharged.

Payment can be made with cash or card. Just a note: Uber isn’t available in Denmark, but locals often use Taxa or Dantaxi.

Pre-booking isn’t necessary since taxis are readily available just outside the airport.

Car Sharing at Copenhagen Airport
