Outdoor Ice Skating In Copenhagen
1. Ice Skating at Tivoli Gardens
In front of the Tivoli concert hall, Tivoli Gardens offers a 350 m2 artificial outdoor ice skating rink open for visitors during winter. Skate in circles around a giant Christmas tree in the center.
If you skate at night, you can get an opportunity to watch the light show while you slide which is a beauty to behold.
The ice skating is not free; it costs DKK 60 even if you have a ride pass. However, the entry is FREE if you have a Copenhagen card.
Renting the skates costs 75 DKK which can be used until 45 minutes before closing hours.
2. Broens Skøjtebane (Broens Ice Skating Rink)
Right beside the Copenhagen food market called Broens Gadekøkken (Broens Street Food), a large squared ice skating rink is set up during winter. Located at the heart of Copenhagen, the 600 m2 ice rink is packed with events like beer bingo and ice discos. Skating is allowed anti-clockwise only to avoid clashes.
Recharge with warm and cozy drinks and delicious food at the food court. Broens Skøjtebane is a popular ice skating rink in Copenhagen, commonly visited by the locals.
Open from November to February, 20 DKK is charged for entry, and 50 DKK more for renting skating blades. Extra charges for helmets and safety aids.
During the Fastelavn Danish festival, if you wear a costume, the ice skating rink is free to access.
Danes visit Broens often due to its high maintenance and prime location, overlooking the harbour.
3. Skøjtebane Frederiksberg Runddel
The Frederiksberg ice rink in Copenhagen located right at the entrance of the Frederiksberg Gardens is a small square-shaped outdoor skating rink. It is open only during the winter months between December and February.
Unlike the other skating rinks which follow anti-circular fashion, you are free to skate wherever you want.
If you have your own skates, you can skate for free at your convenient time. You can also rent the skates for 60 DKK per hour, up to one hour before the closing time.
You can buy hot drinks and some snacks on the premises.
4. Ice Skating on the Frozen Lakes in Copenhagen
Show off your ice-skating skills on the frozen lakes of Copenhagen! If you bring your own skates, you can glide across the ice for free and enjoy the winter wonderland all day long.
Damhussøen Lake is one of the most popular spots where skating is allowed, offering a perfect place to skate, stroll, slide, and have some winter fun with friends and family.
Skating on the larger outdoor natural ice is my favorite of all! The ice is typically at its smoothest in the early morning but can become rougher and more uneven as the day progresses, especially during busy weekends.
However, before stepping onto the ice, keep an eye on the safety warnings. The municipality only permits when the ice is thick enough, and during winter, sign boards are placed at all lakes in Copenhagen.
- Færdsel på isen forbudt – traffic on the ice is forbidden
- Færdsel på isen er tilladt – traffic on the ice is permitted
If no sign is present, it’s a clear indicator that you should avoid entering the lake.
5. Kongens Nytorv
Last year Kongens Nytorv had a small ice rink covering 300 m2 of space. But after 16 years, a large 1300 m2 circular ice rink is open at the heart of Copenhagen.
The Kongens Nytrov ice rink is four times bigger and is located around Kristen’s garden surrounding the King Christian V statue.
You can stake 360° around the square.
Skate rentals are available at Kongens Nytorv near the ice rink. The prices change every year.
6. Reffen Ice Skating Rink
Two new ice skating rinks at Reffen just opened up – one specially designed for kids under 10, and another for everyone else. It’s the perfect spot to hang out, catch a beautiful sunset, and grab a bite at the Reffen food market.
Skating here is DKK 20 per hour, and skate rentals are DKK 75 per hour (including rink access).
Need extra gear? They’ve got skate buddies, helmets, and bob skates available for an additional charge. Plus, there’s a student discount and a 10-time pass if you’re planning to come often!
The rinks are open Thursday and Friday from 15:00 to 21:00, and on weekends (Saturday & Sunday) from 10:00 to 21:00.
7. Pusher Street Ice Skating Rink
Christiania has got a new ice skating rink this season!
Opened on 1st December on the Pusher street, a 660 m2 huge square-shaped ice-skating rink also has an additional 120 m long skateway towards Pile Ale and back to Pusher street.
The route is lit with 1000s of lights and is filled with full of energy and great vibes.
The scooter costs 60 DKK and dog costs 30 DKK.
The ice rink is open from December 1 to February 16, 2025 between Sunday and Thursday from 11:00 to 21:00 and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 to 22:00.
