Looking for the best playgrounds in Copenhagen where your kids can have an unforgettable time?

Copenhagen is packed with amazing playgrounds, and as a long-time resident, I often get asked which ones are worth visiting—whether by tourists exploring the city or families living here.

When my nieces visited me for an extended stay one summer, we went on a playground-hopping adventure. I’ve explored many of the play areas firsthand.

And let me tell you—Copenhagen’s playgrounds are more than just swings and slides. They spark imagination, encourage movement, and provide a safe space for kids to play freely.

So, which ones should you check out?

I’ve rounded up some of the coolest outdoor play areas and indoor playgrounds your little ones will love.

Let’s dive in!

Uniquely Themed Outdoor Playgrounds in Copenhagen

1. Tower Playground (Tårnlegepladsen)

Nestled in the Fælledparken in the Østerbro district, Tower Playground (Tårnlegepladsen) is a mini version of the city’s skyline!

Kids can climb, explore, and slide down miniature replicas of some of Copenhagen’s five most famous towers, including the Church of Our Saviour, the City Hall Tower, the Exchange Tower, the Marble Church, and the Round Tower.

Tower playground or Tårnlegepladsen

There’s plenty of space including an artificial turf field, a skating area, and a sand play area. There’s even an indoor room with LEGO blocks, and on colder days, there might be a campfire to keep things warm and cozy.

The friendly staff is always around to help you.

There’s a café and a shop nearby. There are also toilets and changing areas, making it convenient for families. Just a heads-up: Dogs are not allowed.

  • Opening Hours: In the summer (weeks 18-41), it’s open Monday-Thursday from 9:30 to 17:00 and Friday from 10:00 to 17:00. In the winter (weeks 42-17), the hours shift slightly, Monday-Thursday from 9:00 to 16:30 and Friday from 9:00 to 16:00.
  • It’s closed on weekends and public holidays
  • During week 9 and public holidays, the playground isn’t staffed.

If you’re in Copenhagen with kids, Tower Playground is a must-visit.

Did you know? Copenhagen has 136 playgrounds, including 28 staffed ones. No matter where you are in the city, you’re never too far from a playground!

2. Traffic Playground (Trafiklegepladsen)

Not too far from the Tower Playground, the Traffic Playground (Trafiklegepladsen) in Fælledparken is an interesting playground designed like a mini-traffic city.

With roads, traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, and bike lanes, it’s like a tiny version of Copenhagen’s streets, giving kids a safe space to learn how to navigate traffic.

Children can ride their own bikes or borrow a bicycle or tricycle with a helmet for free. Loaned bikes are only available for kids under 130 cm, and should be returned 30 minutes before closing.

There are toilets nearby, and you’re welcome to bring food and eat at the tables and benches.

  • Opening hours: In summer (weeks 18-41), it’s open Monday-Friday from 9:00 to 17:00, and on select weekends (weeks 24, 26, 28, 30, 32 & 34) from 10:00 to 17:00. In winter (weeks 42-17), the hours shift slightly, Monday-Thursday from 9:00 to 16:30 and Friday from 9:00 to 16:00.
  • It’s closed on weekends during winter.

It’s not only about fun; it’s also about learning essential cycling and road safety skills that will benefit them for life. And honestly, seeing tiny cyclists navigating their way around is absolutely adorable!

3. Water Playground (Vandlegepladsen)

The Water Playground at Fælledparken is one of its kind in Copenhagen. Kids can shoot water cannons up to 5 meters or hop across large round stepping stones in the shallow water.

While it’s a fun spot when the water is actually running, that only happens during summer—mainly on weekends. Even then, it’s not always guaranteed.

Water playground or Vandlegepladsen at Fælledparken

If the kids get bored or if there’s no water available, Fælledparken Skate Park is conveniently located next door, which is great for older children.

I visited in the summer, and unfortunately, there was no water. The sponge pond is permanently closed, and the place isn’t well-maintained. If you’re already in the area, it’s worth checking out, but I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way just for this.

4. Rooftop Playground at Konditaget Lüders

This rooftop playground at Konditaget Lüders is one of the coolest playgrounds in Copenhagen! It is perched 24 meters high on top of a parking garage in Nordhavn.

Konditaget Lüders is a massive 2,400 m² urban space designed for play, fitness, and relaxation. And the best part? The stunning views of the harbor and the Øresund.

At the heart of it all, is a giant climbing spiral rope tower that dares kids to reach the top. You’ll also find trampolines, swings, and outdoor fitness equipment, making it a fun spot for all ages.

It’s not just the kids running around—you’ll find plenty of adults using the space for CrossFit training, stretching, or doing workouts.

  • Opening hours: The public access is from 7:00 to 22:00

Did you know? In Danish, “Legeplads” (pronounced leyeplas) means playground. So, the next time you’re in Copenhagen and spot a “legeplads” sign, you know it’s a spot for kids to play!

5. Legeplads Femte Juni Plads

Legeplads Femte Juni Plads is themed as the Train Playground (Toglegepladsen)—is a good play area with bright red train-themed play structures.

Tucked away in the green, peaceful surroundings near Grøndal Station, this playground is a bit farther from the city center than most other playgrounds, but if you have a train-obsessed kid, it’s worth the trip.

For the younger ones, there’s a toy train where they can play loco pilot. The swings, slides, carousel, and sandbox are all designed with toddlers and preschoolers in mind, making it a fantastic spot for kids under six.

Kids can wave at the S-trains passing by every few minutes from the viewing platform.

There are plenty of tables and benches, making it a nice place to go for a picnic. However, there are no toilets, and the playground isn’t staffed.

  • Opening Hours: The train playground is open 24*7 on all days

6. The Farm and Construction Playground in Remiseparken

Legepladsen Remiseparken has two incredible playgrounds in a green space catering to different age groups.

In the northern part of the park, you’ll find Bondegården, the farm playground, designed for younger children. It has a free petting zoo with farm animals like chickens, rabbits, ponies, pigs, cows, and lots of goats. Inside, you’ll also find tanks with fish, Congo snails, and even walking stick insects.

Kids can get involved in feeding, grooming, and even pony-pulling at specific times, making it an interactive and educational experience. The playground is staffed and they are helpful.

For older kids, there is Byggelegepladsen, the construction playground. There’s a train, a Wild West-style saloon, a jailhouse, and a giant castle with a dragon slide. It’s a paradise for little builders and explorers. During staffed hours, kids can borrow balls, mini-golf equipment, and table tennis bats for extra fun.

There’s also a cozy playroom for toddlers (1-3 years old) with board games, swings, and sandboxes to keep them entertained.

There are tables and benches scattered around, perfect for a packed lunch break. Toilets and changing rooms are also available.

And if you head to the southern part of the park, you’ll find a large skate park, a basketball court, and a football field.

With a mix of farm life, adventure, and sports, Remiseparken is a fantastic destination for families looking for a free and fun-filled day out.

  • Opening hours: From Monday-Friday from 9:00 to 18:00, and on weekends from 9:00 to 17:00.
  • Closed on public holidays.

Did you know? Sustainability is a key focus even in Copenhagen’s playgrounds. Many are built using recycled wood, metal, and plastic waste, making them more eco-friendly.

7. Legepladsen i Skydebanehaven (Parrot Playground)

In the heart of Vesterbro is the Legepladsen i Skydebanehaven—or as many call it, the Parrot Playground. The name comes from the giant, a brightly colored parrot with a wide slide at the center.

If you’re in the area with kids, this is one of the most beloved playgrounds.

The playground has everything kids love—slides, swings, a zipline, a carousel, climbing nets, and seesaws. Slightly older kids can keep themselves entertained with built-in ping pong tables, foosball tables, artificial turf fields, and ball courts.

It’s a staffed playground, so you’ll find plenty of shared toys and games lying around, including bikes, tricycles, balls, and garden toys that anyone can use.

There’s even an indoor activity room filled with board games and books.

During summer, you’ll often see adults sunbathing in the green areas while their kids play. And if you need a break, there’s a small café serving ice cream, baked foods, tea, and coffee—a nice little bonus.

Toilets and changing rooms are also available, making it a convenient stop for families.

  • Opening Hours: During summer, in weeks 18-41, it’s open from Monday to Friday between 9:30 and 17:30 and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 17:00 in weeks 18-38. Closed on Sundays. During winter, in weeks 42-17, it is open from Monday to Friday between 9:30 and 17:00 and closed on weekends.
  • Closed on all public holidays.

8. Pilot Playground at Nørrebroparken

Just a 10-minute walk from Superkilen Park, this place is a big part of Nørrebro’s children’s lives and it’s easy to see why!

The pilot playground is designed with two aeroplanes, a boat, and a large whale that kids can climb, hide in, and slide down.

Superkilen Park in Nørrebro is one of the most unique public spaces in Copenhagen. Opened in 2012, Superkilen is a mix of bold colors, unusual design, and a creative play area that makes it an interesting place to check out.

The park is divided into three distinct areas. The Green Park is the most traditional, with a skatepark and giant swings on the sands.

The Black Square (Den Sorte Plads)—probably the most famous part of Superkilen. You’ve probably seen pictures of its wavy white lines painted on the black pavement. It’s a fun place to walk or take photos. There are also fountains, chess and checkers tables, and benches with barbecue grills, making it a great hangout spot.
