I’ve found places that offer the best sunset views, both lively and quiet atmosphere, and unforgettable golden-hour moments.

Copenhagen has several viewpoints that stay open late enough to enjoy the sunset while offering great views of the city.

- Illum Rooftop – A rooftop food court with both indoor and outdoor seating.
- Konditaget Lüders – A free rooftop playground for both children and adults with panoramic city views.
- Filmtaget/ Cinemateket – A rooftop terrace with an open-air cinema, Meyers eatery and bar, a play area, and lovely views over Kongens Have.
- Fisketorvet Rooftop – A rooftop terrace is also a parking space located on top of the shopping centre.
- Round Tower – In the winter months from October to March, the Round Tower is open for stargazing until 21:00. One of the best places to see sunset in Copenhagen during winter.

CopenHill, Church of Our Saviour, and Christiansborg Tower all close before sunset time, so they’re great viewpoints during the day but not for watching the sunset.

- Norrlyst i Tårnet – A classic Danish restaurant located 44 metres up inside the historic Christiansborg Tower. It serves a seasonal evening tasting menu.

Copenhagen does not have hills or mountains—after all, Denmark is famously flat. But that doesn’t mean you’ll miss out on beautiful sunsets.

I often visit these spots when I want to escape the city for a while, and they’re just lovely for both sunrise and sunset.
- Kalvebod Fælled – A vast nature reserve on Amager Island with bike trails. A lot of birds, sheep, and cows.
- Eremitageslottet, Dyrehaven – The elevated grounds around the Royal Hunting Lodge offer panoramic views across Dyrehaven’s deer park and the Øresund coast.
- Amager Fælled – A large protected nature reserve on Amager Island, just minutes from central Copenhagen. With walking and cycling trails, open meadows, wetlands, and plenty of birds, deer, and highland castles, it’s a peaceful place to escape the city.
