After 16 years, the Kongens Nytorv ice skating rink finally returned last winter — and it instantly became my favourite winter activity in Copenhagen.
The rink is huge (1,300 m²!) and circles right around the King Christian V statue, so you can skate in a full 360° loop with all the festive lights around you.
With a nearby Christmas market and stalls, it’s such a lively place, especially in the evening.
They also host Pepsi Silent Discos on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 18:00–21:00. Just avoid weekends if you can — it gets very crowded!
Skate rentals are available at Kongens Nytorv ice rink. You can also book your slot and rental skates online.

2. Tivoli Gardens Ice Skating

Right in front of the Tivoli Concert Hall, you’ll find a cosy 350 m² outdoor ice skating rink that feels straight out of a Christmas movie.
You literally glide in circles around a giant Christmas tree while Tivoli’s magical lights glow all around you. Kids especially love it, and honestly, so do I.

If you skate after dark, you might even catch the beautiful Tivoli light show while you’re on the ice.
Entry to the Tivoli ice rink requires admission to Tivoli Gardens, and it’s free if you have a Copenhagen Card.
3. Broens Skøjtebane (Broens Ice Skating Rink)

Right beside the Copenhagen food market called Broens Gadekøkken (Broens Street Food), a large square ice skating rink is set up during winter.
Located at the heart of Copenhagen, the 600 m2 ice rink is packed with events like beer bingo and ice discos. Skating is allowed anti-clockwise only to avoid clashes.

Broens Skøjtebane is a popular ice skating rink in Copenhagen, commonly visited by the locals. Danes visit Broens often due to its high maintenance and prime location, overlooking the harbour.
Recharge with warm drinks and delicious food at the food court. During the Fastelavn Danish festival, if you wear a costume, the ice skating rink is free to access.
Every Friday (17:00–22:00) and Saturday (14:00–22:00), Broens ice skating rink hosts a lively disco on ice with a DJ, music, lights, and a party atmosphere on the ice.
Every Thursday from 17:00–19:00 and Sunday from 10:00–12:00, Broens ice skating rink offers free skating lessons with skilled coaches from TSK Skøjteklub. It’s a great way to learn new skills or build confidence on the ice.
There’s no registration — just turn up with your skates (or rent one) and pay the regular rink entrance.

4. Skøjtebane Frederiksberg Runddel Ice Skating
- Dates: 29th November 2025 to 23rd February 2026
- Opening hours: 10:00 to 21:00 on all days
- Price: Free if you have your own skates. 60 DKK per hour for rental skates.
Located at the entrance of the Frederiksberg Gardens, the Frederiksberg ice rink in Copenhagen is a small square-shaped outdoor skating rink.
With Christmas-lit trees on both sides, it’s such a fun activity to do with kids in winter.
Unlike the other skating rinks, you are free to skate wherever you want. If you get too cold, you can enjoy a cup of hot chocolate at the small cafe shops in the square.

Gather your friends and have a great weekend of fun!
5. Reffen Ice Skating Rink

- Price: Free for one hour if you have your own skates. 65 DKK per hour for adult rental skates and 40 DKK for children’s rental skates. Skating seals and helmets cost extra.
Ice skating rinks at Reffen make the winters more enjoyable. They introduced two real ice skating rinks last year: a small rink for kids under 10 and a large rink for everyone else.
It’s such a wholesome place because families, couples, and groups of friends all gather here to enjoy the winter vibes.

On November 21st, don’t miss the Disco on Ice from 18:00–20:00, complete with a DJ, an exciting skating show by TSK, and a chance to learn new tricks right on the ice.
Reffen’s skating island, Skøjteøen, is packed with events and always has something going on, no matter your age.
I visit Reffen all year round, and it’s genuinely one of my favourite hangouts in the city.
After skating, you can warm up with delicious food from the Reffen street food market—pure winter hygge.
6. Christiania Ice Skating Rink
- Dates: 22nd November 2025 to 4th January 2026.

- Price: Free if you have your own skates. 75 DKK for rental skates. Additional cost for a guide dog.
Last winter, a huge 660 m2 square-shaped ice skating rink was opened in the heart of Christiania on Pusher Street! It also features an additional 120 m long skateway extending from Pile Ale and Pusher Street and back.

The outdoor route is lit with 1000s of lights and is filled with full of energy and great vibes.
Christiania Skøjtebane, or the Christiania skating rink, is pure joy in the cold and dark December months of Copenhagen!
7. Ice Skating on the Frozen Lakes in Copenhagen
Show off your ice-skating skills on the frozen lakes of Copenhagen! If you bring your own skates, you can glide across the ice for free and enjoy the winter wonderland all day long.
Damhussøen Lake is one of the most popular spots where skating is allowed, offering a perfect place to skate, stroll, slide, and have some winter fun with friends and family.

Skating on the larger outdoor natural ice is my favourite of all! The ice is typically at its smoothest in the early morning but can become rougher and more uneven as the day progresses, especially during busy weekends.
However, before stepping onto the ice, keep an eye on the safety warnings. The municipality only permits when the ice is thick enough, and during winter, signboards are placed at all lakes in Copenhagen.
- Færdsel på isen forbudt – traffic on the ice is forbidden
- Færdsel på isen er tilladt – traffic on the ice is permitted
If no sign is present, it’s a clear indicator that you should avoid entering the lake.
