5. Meatpacking District or Kødbyen

Kødbyen translates to “the meat town”. Originally a meat market in the late 1800s, later a slaughterhouse and poultry market in the mid-1900s, and today it has evolved into a vibrant hub for creativity.

The area now houses galleries, restaurants, nightlife venues, and small creative businesses like studios and architecture firms.

The meatpacking district consists of three separate areas, referred to as the White (Den Hvide Kødby), and Grey and Brown (Den Brune Kødby) for the dominant color of their buildings.
